Originally painted by Crew Chief Sgt Amos Nicholson
This aircraft originally served in the 344th BS as HAIL COLUMBIA. She was transferred to the 343rd BS where the left side art work was changed to GRUMPY in compliance with the Snow White squadron directive.
The aircraft cracked up while landing at Cyprus following the low level Ploesti mission.

On the return trip from Ploesti in a loose formation with three other B-24's 'The Witch' was attacked by 6 Bf-109's. Darlington feathered No 4 engine and rang the bail-out bell. She lost altitude and crash landed close to town of Dubrovnik . 6 crewmen were POW's the other 4 escaped.
